Religious education has to effectively communicate the essentials of the Christian faith by directly relating faith to the actual living out of the faith. Integration, as an approach in religious education, highlights faith's experiential nature and its direct relevance to the Christian way of living. The integrated approach to faith aims at the maturing of faith involving a personal decision for Jesus Christ in the Church and in the world today. Imagination, the human capacity to perceive the divine presence in the created realm, is an essential element in the integration of faith and life. The study of Scripture, the soul of religious education, must present the Christian message as Good News that is liberating and transforming human life, Scriptural interpretation using imagination, pneumatic exegesis, performance hermeneutics within the liturgical life of the Church stresses the positive qualities of Scripture as the inspired living Word of God, truly sacramental, book of the Church and a work of art.
