Summa literally means "sum or sum total". It also refers to a synthesis or summary of a writer's work. (Webster's Third New International Dictionary Unabridged,1993 ed.). The term thus aptly describes this book which is a compilation of the legal doctrines, principles, and teachings enunciated in all the decisions, resolutions, and separate opinions penned by Chief Justice Artemio V. Panganiabn during his tenure in the Supreme Court. These writings are bound in 59 volumes, which formed the background of the book jacket.
