Dr. Asis' fourth book outlines the theological principles that ground a contemporary view of the Church in the Philippines and specifies the challenges it has to face if it is to be Christ's credible witness in the world today.
Inspired by Pope Francis' vision for the Church, The Filipino Church at the Crossroads aims to realize PCP II's call for the Church to be a faithful community of Christ's disciples amid widespread poverty and violence in the Philippines today.
Faithful to tradition in the spirit of Vatican II and yet critical of the Church's tendency to turn in on itself, this work calls on the Philippine Church to shift its priorities for mission by recovering the original simplicity of the gospels and not be stymied by an obsessive preoccupation with rules and rubrics, and like Jesus, go to the peripheries to bring the promise of God's liberating presence.
